Sunshine in Skipton

The sun is shining in Skipton right now. It seems like we have been having better weather this week than London where my son reports that it is "rain, rain rain"!
Yesterday we awoke to glorious sunshine and decided to get up to a good viewpoint. A 40 minute drive took us to Nidderdale; an area of outstanding natural beauty on the eastern border ofthe Yorkshire Dales National Park. From Pateley Bridge a short drive up the Nidd valley takes you to the picturesque village of Wath. We parked there and took a 3.5 mile circular walk passing back on foot through Pateley Bridge where we had a coffee break in a pleasant courtyard cafe. The route takes you up steeply above the valley where there are stunning views of the Gouthwaite Reservoir. But the return route is a gentle stroll along the banks of the River Nidd. This walk is described in the "Pub Walks in Yorkshire" book that we have in the cottage.
