A short but stout circular walk from Settle

We parked at the main public car park off Settle High Street and walked down to the bridge over the River Ribble. After crossing the bridge we turned right into the Ribble Way footpath and followed this across several fields until we reached Stackhouses; a delightful hamlet. We then crossed the river again and followed the footpath upwards, across a busy B-class road, into the small village of Langcliffe where the local parish church was open for the sale of second-hand books and CDs. We left the parish church and turned right up the lane and into the Pennine Bridleway by a gate just outside the churchyard corner; a short steep climb then flattens out for a return walk back along the valley side into Settle. This section of the walk afford superb views of the whole area including Giggleswick Scar and of course the route that we walked earlier in the day.The path drops into Settle market-place via the aptly named Constitution Hill. The whole walk is about 3.75 miles. Note how the signpost at Langcliffe gives Settle as three-quarters of a mile, whilst the equivalent sign at the Settle end of the path gives Langcliffe as 1.5 miles!
